Dr. Maryrose McInerney is a full-time faculty member of the audiology program at Montclair State University (MSU), where her focus is on pediatrics, amplification, and counseling for people with hearing loss and their families. Prior to 2013, Dr. McInerney was an associate professor at LI AUD consortium, St. John’s University. She has practice audiology in New Jersey for more than 40 years, establishing an audiology program at the Hackensack Medical Center more than 30 years ago and a private practice in 2009 in order to provide one stop care for pediatric patients. She is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hackensack Audiology and Hearing Aid Associates, LLC. Dr. McInerney was elected in 2022 to the National Academy of Practices – Audiology, a nationally recognized interprofessional group of healthcare practitioners and scholars.
Dr. McInerney received her Ph.D. in Hearing science from the CUNY Graduate Center of New York and her master’s degree in audiology from Western Michigan University, and completed her clinical fellowship year at John Hopkins Medical School. Dr. McInerney’s research has focused on outcomes of intervention for the lifespan, while her current research focuses on outcomes of intervention for EHDI Programs, Adherence to and Predictors of Follow Up. She has published in various professional journals and presented at numerous conferences on her research.
The New Jersey Commissioner of Health appointed her to the New Jersey Hearing Evaluation Counsel (the advisory board of NJ EHDI) in 2012, she currently serves as its chairperson and represents the council on the NJ Newborn Screening Advisory Review Committee (NSARC). She serves on the board of New Jersey Hearing Loss of America Association and is vice chair of the Bergen County (HLAA). She has consistently been awarded Best of Hearing Health Professionals. She has served on many ASHA and AAA committees promoting evidence practice and mentoring students, was previously elected the vice chair of the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) in audiology and speech-language pathology of ASHA, and continues to serve as a reviewer for student research.
She was bestowed the 2023 Audiologist of the Year by The Sound Start Foundation. Dr. McInerney is an active member in her community. She is a trustee and chair of the medical quality assurance and compliance committee of the board of Eva’s Village in Paterson. She also volunteers for the Center for Hope and Safety in Bergen County, the Bridges Outreach Program of Summit and is a member of the Bergen County Woman United in Philanthropy.
